Following a phenomenal two years in the West End and a sensational first UK and Ireland tour, the “indisputably terrific” (The Times) OLIVIER AWARD-WINNING BEST NEW MUSICAL, charting the euphoric highs and agonizing lows of THE KINKS, is back and heading to Alexandra Palace Theatre, in the neighbourhood where the Davies brothers grew up!
Sunny Afternoon celebrates the raw energy, passion, and timeless sound of one of Britain’s most iconic bands, telling their story through an incredible back catalogue of chart-toppers, including You Really Got Me, Lola, and All Day and All of the Night.
Set against the backdrop of Britain on the cusp of the rebellious ’60s, Sunny Afternoon is an “exhilarating” (Financial Times) and moving celebration of the music, life, and the band that changed it all.
Sunny Afternoon features music and lyrics by the legendary Ray Davies, a book by Joe Penhall, original story by Ray Davies, and direction by Edward Hall.
📍 Venue Description: Alexandra Palace – affectionately known as Ally Pally – has sat watching over North London for 150 years. A masterpiece of Victorian architecture, the venue is home to a range of entertainment throughout the year, from Go Ape to ice skating to theatre.
With the capability to host standing and banquet events in addition to theatre, Alexandra Palace Theatre is a hugely versatile space.
### **The History of Alexandra Palace Theatre**
The building opened on 24th May 1873 – only to burn down 16 days later, before reopening in 1875. Since then, the site has been a WW1 refugee camp, the BBC’s first tv station, and a food distribution hub, among other things.
After the BBC leased the Palace, the theatre became a props storage space. Following a £27 million refurbishment, Alexandra Palace Theatre reopened in 2018 after 80 years of closure.
