We continue our theme of “Uncommon Wisdom” with another passage from Proverbs. This passage from the very last chapter of Proverbs also invites us to celebrate female Wisdom! Although this passage is often treated as a celebration of a ‘good wife’ it is so much more than that! And James reminds us that true Wisdom is gently, kind, peace-loving. How can we actively promote such wisdom, as a congregation and as individuals? Join us – either in person or on the livestream – as we explore these thoughts together. Everyone is welcome – even if you don't consider yourself a Christian. If you enjoy exploring the life and teachings of Jesus, you are invited to join us.
During this extreme heat we are meeting in the social hall because it is somewhat cooler than the traditional worship space.
We do our Sunday live-stream on St Paul's Facebook page. As long as all goes well, we will be live-streaming at 10:30 at this page: https://www.facebook.com/St.PaulsUnitedMethodistChurchSpokane
If there are problems we will post instructions on the page for an alternate solution.
After it is finished, the live-stream will be re-posted on our other church pages (and Pastor Deb's page) around Noon.
As usual, the Order of Worship for this worship, and words to the hymn(s), will be posted in the Discussion for this Facebook event – if FB lets me post it. If not, I'll try some workaround!
IN PERSON INFORMATION
As we worship with a 'hybrid' of both in person and online we invite you to join us EITHER online OR in person at Liberty Park United Methodist Church (East 11th and South Helena) at 10:30. We are still being cautious about the COVID virus, partly because it has become increasingly difficult to get reliable current information. (Spokane Regional Health District continues to change the website to be less and less transparent.) We are no longer requiring people to wear masks. We do invite people to sit with some distance between family groups. We will have some printed copies of the Order of Worship, and you are invited to bring yours with you – either on your phone or printed at home if that feels safer for you!
COMMUNION
We will be celebrating Communion as we close our time together. In our United Methodist tradition, we practice what is called an 'open table'. This means that we do not turn anyone away from the communion table. If Christ invites you (and only you know that) you are welcome. So we welcome all!
If you join us FROM HOME, you are invited to have your own elements ready. Traditionally for us, that would be bread and grape juice. But you are invited to bring to our 'virtual table' any food and beverage that would be staples in your culture. (Jesus picked up some bread from the meal and a cup of wine that they were drinking with dinner.) And you are welcome to simply observe this part if that is your comfort level.
If you are joining us IN PERSON, you may bring your own elements if you are concerned about exposure to germs. For those who are comfortable participating, we will be offering to share one communion loaf that will be handled only by Pastor Deb, wearing a mask. We also have a gluten free option. After disinfecting her hands, Pastor Deb will break off pieces of the bread and hand them to people. The juice will continue to be in individual cups, spaced along the communion rail. You are also welcome to bring your own elements if that is more comfortable for you.
We look forward to worshiping with you!
