Sunday, November 13, the Buffalo Rose will feature American Swing Era music by the Flatirons Jazz Orchestra. Deborah is a finalist in the Colorado Blues Challenge (again!) so we'll be featuring two guest vocalists, Marion Powers and Chaz Bowles.

Doors open at 4:00, with a FREE Beginner Swing Dance Lesson, followed by two-and-a-half hours of live BIG BAND jazz from 5:00 to 7:30

Marion Powers is a six-time DownBeat Award-winning jazz vocalist whose dynamic improvisation skills keep her in high demand from coast to coast, not only as a performer, but also as an educator. She teaches Jazz Voice at UNC.
Chaz Bowles is a local jazz singer, Emcee, AND trumpet player. He grew up in Kansas City and had his first professional jazz gig on a riverboat on the Missouri River. He has lived in Boulder since 1987. He played traditional jazz with Alan Frederickson for 25 years, and held a steady gig at the Bull and Bush for 30 years.
The Flatirons Jazz Orchestra
FJO is a traditional 18-piece BIG BAND that authentically recreates the romance and excitement of the Swing-Era. We play the great dance music of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Diane Schuur, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, and more.
FJO is composed of the region's most outstanding professional musicians, and one of the finest jazz singers in the country. This is swing dance music that will have everyone on their feet. FJO mixes swinging classics with smoky ballads and easy-listening concert pieces; something for everyone. The Buffalo Rose
Built in 1922 and converted into an elegant indoor pool in 1928 called the “Golden Plunge”, The Rose main venue and lobby offer roughly 6500 square feet of bygone-era Art Deco glamour. Visitors enter under the classic grand marquee on Washington Avenue and are immediately transported back in time to the great western American theaters of the early 20th century. The lobby features lounge-style seating, classic parlor games, and four big-screen television. Guests pass by a fully stocked bar as they enter into the main venue space with soaring ceilings, bold steel trusses, elegant lighting and original brick walls. The Rose also features a concert-quality sound system, a large video projection system, a full-sized dance floor and elevated stage enabling comprehensive entertainment options.
