Sunday Sessions is an informal sharing of works intersecting with and/or inside of Pontus Pettersson’s one year residency and exhibition AIR at Index. Taking the form of either improvisation or therapy, a session can mean taking the time to reflect, to compose, to be in the moment and act from what one has at hand. With a wish to invite or expose more witnesses into Pontus Pettersson’s ongoing process within Index’ space, Sunday Session is an initiative that can serve dancing in whatever state it’s in. To accompany newly fresh poems or sculptures in transit or curatorial dwellings. The first Sunday Session focuses on dance and choreography. Pontus invites Rachel Tess and her solo project Flip Side; Pontus is one of several choreographers making a solo for her in this project. Also invited is Stina Nyberg and a section of her piece For What We Will – which features a duet that Pontus and Robert Malmborg dance in.

Pontus Pettersson’s artistic practice is a blend of various disciplines and genres, where text, objects, sculptures, and choreographic work are interconnected. He explores expanded notions of choreography as an organizational and relational method, often taking form through sculptural works, performative situations, and curated encounters. Drawing on materiality, language, poetics and philosophy, he investigates how objects, bodies, and social structures produce meaning, spaces for listening and intimacy.
Rachel Tess is an American choreographer and dancer living and working in Sweden. She is the director of Milvus Artistic Research Center (MARC) in Knislinge and senior curator for dance at Wanås Konst. She received a BFA in 2004 from The Juilliard School in New York City. While attending Juilliard, Tess received a Princess Grace Award (2002), performed as a member of the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and was presented with the Martha Hill Dance Award by the faculty.
Robert Malmborg is a dancer and on occasion choreographer from Stockholm Sweden. Working with dance and voice, he is interested in the function and expression of these crafts in regards to the current work situation. Malmborg is approaching his working context as choreographic material and a source of meaning. His dancing often surfaces qualities of isolation, embodiments of creatures, glides, footwork and displacement of rhythms and melodies.
Stina Nyberg is a choreographer and dancer and holds an MA in choreography from Stockholm university of the arts. Her practice departs from a fascination of the extraordinary within the ordinary, shifting between magic, storytelling, dancing and daydreaming. Often, her different works entangle with each other, creating webs of investigations that span over several years and meet the public in various formats. She regularly works in collaborations and collectives, currently being part of the artistic cohort of Rose Choreographic School in London.
Sunday Sessions is a recurring format that shares process, choreographic and performative moments connected to Pontus Pettersson's year-long exhibition "AIR".
