On August 24th, 1933 the great saxophonist Wayne Shorter was born. Shorter came to mainstream prominence in 1959 upon joining Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, for whom he eventually became the primary composer. In 1964 he joined Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet, and then co-founded the jazz fusion band Weather Report in 1970. He was a prolific composer and recorded more than 20 albums as a bandleader. Shorter died in Los Angeles, California, on March 2, 2023, aged 89.The Sunday Jazz Jam - featuring The EQNX Jazztet - is still going strong and this week the Jazztet is getting together to bring you some exciting instrumental improvisational music for you to listen to.
Flatiron Albuquerque (6001 San Mateo Blvd NE) is a full service Restaurant and Bar that has a wide range of selections and excellent service too. Make sure you get there early, as Flatiron is a first come, first serve venue. No reservations, no cover, and always family friendly.
MUSICIANS: ARRIVE EARLY BECAUSE THE SIT-IN LIST FILLS UP VERY FAST!!! IF YOU SHOW UP AT 6:00 PM WHEN THE JAM STARTS, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE YOU WON'T PLAY. Make sure you have one or two tunes in mind and the key you want to play or sing them in. When in doubt bring a lead sheet!!
