To cypher is to freestyle together in a circle where each person gets their moment. In a cypher, one will freestyle about a certain topic, which is quickly taken up or flipped by another, who plays off the prior words and themes. Each artist takes their respective turn. Cyphers flow freely between performers. The circle can go on continuously, as long as the fluidity of the cypher keeps going. The cypher is welcoming.
