About this Event
What is Sunday Assembly?
It's a joyful gathering where everyone’s welcome—no matter your background or beliefs.
We come together to listen to interesting and inspiring talks , sing along to uplifting songs , and meet a genuinely friendly bunch of people who love a good chat and a laugh. It’s all about celebrating life and all the brilliant things Sheffield has to offer.
Curious? Come along, bring a friend, and see what it’s all about. You might just leave with a smile on your face and a song stuck in your head.
Retired teacher, veteran stand up comedian and performance poet, Tony Kinsella, began a pilgrimage to visit every statue of a comedy performer throughout the UK, from the nearest to his Salford home (Victoria Wood in Bury) to the furthest away (Max Miller in Brighton); a journey exploring both the landscape of the nation and the evolving nature of comedy across one and a quarter centuries; from the Vaudevillians of the early 20th Century, through music hall, wartime concert parties, the swinging 60s, the modern age and contemporary comedy – a galaxy of stars, permanently set in stone.
Join him on this de-brief of his grand tour and find out the answers to such questions as …
* Who merits a legacy statue and who doesn’t?
* What is the gender ratio of the statues?
* What is behind the choice of locations?
* Which statues are stunning and which ones are dire?
Tony leaves no stone unturned … and no turn unstoned … in pursuit of this pilgrimage.
