Join us for a special DIY Sunae (sand art) workshop with Naoshi, an internationally acclaimed Japanese Sunae artist and author. Naoshi’s most recent book is Tako Knows, a stunning picture book from Overcup Press about Tako, an outgoing octopus who “knows how to enjoy his short life.” You may have seen Naoshi’s bright, colorful art prints here in the bookstore, and we are now excited to welcome her here in person. Naoshi’s original Sunae art from Tako Knows will also be on display in the gallery until the end of July. Cost: $15 per person
Pre-registration is not required, just stop by!
Ages 5 and up are welcome.
The cost of the workshop includes a DIY Sunae kit featuring Tako and his quirky fish friend Sakana hanging out in the Jellyfish Hotel.
Naoshi was born in Iwate, Japan, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She works with the medium of sand art known as Sunae in Japanese. Using brightly colored, shiny grains of sand, she visualizes a fantastical world of her own, imbued with a sense of nostalgia.
