Billy Sugarfix is an American songwriter, singer, guitarist, and producer best known as the founder and principal songwriter of Chapel Hill, North Carolina's Evil Weiner. Emerging from the fertile Triangle music scene in the early 1990s, Evil Weiner developed a reputation for literate guitar pop that mixed hook-driven melodies, eccentric humor, and eclectic arrangements, earning a loyal regional following and the admiration of fellow musicians. The band's catalog inspired the 2004 tribute album I Can't Get That Evil Weiner Song Out of My Head, featuring interpretations by artists including Chris Stamey, Dillon Fence, Pipe, Zen Frisbee, Work Clothes, and other North Carolina contemporaries. Alongside his work with Evil Weiner, Sugarfix has pursued a solo career that highlights the more introspective side of his songwriting, most notably on the critically acclaimed Summer Tempests (2009). Now residing in Pittsboro, he continues to perform and collaborate, and his work has consistently reflected the musical adventurousness and independent spirit that have long defined the Chapel Hill and surrounding music community.
