Mitchell Paxton Ward & Coconut Shy
Described as "...improvised balladry, drawing from folk, blues, pop and something his own". Performing as Mitch Ward, Mitchell P. Ward and recently Mitchell Ward. Supported artists such as Ben Salter; The Timbers, Eva McGowan and The Little Stevies.
Melbourne based Singer/Songwriter Coconut Shy blends introspective, unique and captivating lyrics with the gentle sound of a soothing acoustic guitar. Real name Joseph Mackey, the stage name comes from an old fairground game he used to play in his primary school days and an encounter he had with a stranger in the United States in 2017 at a July 4th celebration. A songwriter since his early teen years, his writing style is inspired by personal experiences, mood poetry and fable-telling. His debut EP “Japan Town”, released in March 2021, sums up his approach to songwriting: combining authentic, ear-perking vocals with a delicate, peaceful acoustic guitar. All three tracks on the release, ‘Flinch’, ‘Henrietta Street’ and ‘Japan Town’ exemplify this in different ways. Add in some drums and bass and the result is a strong, sophisticated, yet calming sound that can work around a campfire, on a road trip or on a rainy day.
