Sun Day in San Leandro: Celebrate the Gifts of the Sun
Third Act SF Bay Area, in collaboration with the City of San Leandro, invites the community to celebrate the gifts of the sun in the beautiful Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 21st.
This free, family-friendly event will feature a Kid Zone with hands-on art and science activities and demonstrations, including pinwheel building and decorating, solar toy car racing, a gardening activity, story time, and a treasure hunt! These activities will be led by teaching artists, scientists, botanists and storytellers from Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour, Junior Center of Art and Science, Punk Philosophers’ Garage Cafe, Samso Labs, and Signing Roots Consultancy. Of course, adults are welcome to participate as well.
A Discovery Zone will feature a variety of speakers and topics include money-saving energy tips, how to electrify your home, a trip around the sun, and simple ways to advocate for a fossil-free future.
In the Energy Expo, visitors can connect with a variety of solar and earth-friendly organizations and companies, including Bright Saver, California Native Plant Society, Citizens Climate Lobby Alameda, Dayenu Climate Group, Food & Water Watch, GRID Alternatives, Happily Electrified, Howdy Goudey, Lifers Leaving a Legacy, Luminalt, San Leandro 2050, Sierra Club, Stefanie Pruegel, The Switch Is On, and Third Act SF Bay Area.
Groove to the sounds of live music with The Radioactives, Pete Kronowitt and The EveryDay Items, Mami Mia, Mike Rufo and Karl McHugh.
Plus Food and Prizes! Tacos and more will be available for purchase at Lola’s Taco Truck, and there will be free popsicles, compliments of Third Act SF Bay Area. Be sure to bring your own fillable water bottle.
Finally, a free drawing will take place every hour. Prizes will include gift certificates to local restaurants, event tickets, gift baskets, music CD’s, a birthday party for 10 at Junior Center of Art and Science, and more!
