Accessible Travel Directions to Live Oak Theater

Public Transit Directions:

BART from any direction - Take the Orange Line - Berryessa/North San Jose-Richmond to the Downtown Berkeley stop (located at Shattuck and Center St). Exit the station on the east side of Shattuck Ave by taking the stairs up to ground level. You will exit in front of the Target and Jupiter Restaurant and Brewery. Continuing walking straight out of the BART entrance and the Allston Way bus stop (for routes 18 and 7) will be about 30 paces straight ahead. Board the AC Transit 18 bus Northbound towards Albany/Solano Ave. Ride for 7 stops and offboard at Henry Street and Berryman Street. When you’ve just stepped off the bus, continue forward in the direction you are facing, away from the busy street you just came from, traveling eastbound on Berryman Street. Walk on Berryman for one block at which point it the street will dead end at Shattuck Ave. Turn left to cross Berryman to the northwest corner, then walk east to cross Shattuck to arrive at the Northeast corner of Shattuck and Berryman. The theater, located inside the Live Oak Community Center at Live Oak Park will be directly in front of you. You may hear the sound of basketball games or children playing at the playground to your right. There are two entrances to the theater: the main entrance is wheelchair accessible and located around the left/north side of the building. The other entrance is through the Community Center lobby located up a wide concrete path to the center of the building with the theater building to the left and the playground to the right and then down 5 stairs to the left of the doors inside the building. The following directions are to the wheelchair accessible main theater entrance on the left side/north side of the building. To reach the theater entrance, walk forward off the crosswalk following the concrete pathway that slopes up and to the left into the park. Directly in front of the crosswalk sidewalk entrance you will encounter an area covered in wood chips. Walk to the left on the cement pathway as it straightens out and starts to climb uphill. A path will branch to your left heading downhill into an expansive park which is shaded by big trees - do not take this path. Another path will then branch directly to the right, but continue to stay straight on the path that will start to hug the building on your right as it continues uphill. There will be grass to the left of the path until roughly 30 paces from the crosswalk when there will be a metal railing mounted on top of a cement curb on both sides of the path. These railings end at the theater door where a QDF staff member will greet you and show you to your seats.

AC Transit from the North:

Take the AC Transit 18 bus Southbound towards Lake Merritt Bart via MLK. Offboard at Henry St and Berryman St. After stepping off the bus, turn right (north) and walk half a block to arrive at the Southwest corner of Berryman and Henry. Listen carefully for cars, as there is no stop signs or lights for the crosswalk and you will be crossing 4 lanes of traffic. Cross Berryman heading east to the southeast corner. Another option to avoid crossing where there is no light is to take the 18 bus one stop further and offboard at the Southwest corner of Shattuck place and Rose right next to the Safeway parking lot. After stepping off the bus turn towards your right and walk to the corner. You will pass a garbage can on the way. At the corner, walk north to cross Rose Street and then turn right to cross Shattuck Place to arrive at the Northeast corner of Rose and Shattuck Place. Shattuck Place is a four lane intersection with traffic lights and a crosswalk signal that lasts 25 seconds, but does not have a tone signal to indicate when the crosswalk is on. Once you have arrived at the Northeast corner, turn to your left and walk north on Shattuck Place (which has now become Henry Place) one long block to the southeast corner of Berryman and Henry.

From the southeast corner of Berryman and Henry street, walk eastbound on Berryman for one block at which point the street will dead end at Shattuck Ave. Rideshare Directions

Instruct your driver to take you to the Live Oak Community Center / Live Oak Theater at 1301 Shattuck Ave and drop you in front of the main entrance located on the east side of Shattuck Ave at the intersection of Berryman Street and Shattuck Ave. The main entrance faces westward, with a playground and basketball court directly to the south of the building. Please note that northbound Shattuck Ave splits at Vine Street. Shattuck Ave continues directly north, and Shattuck Place curves to the left becoming Henry Street after it crosses Rose Street. The theater is located on Shattuck Avenue, not Shattuck Place/Henry Street.
