*** ALL SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAMS TAKE PLACE IN OUR MAIN CAMPUS AT JOURNAL SQUARE ***
Join Hudson County Community College’s Summer Youth & Teen Programs, offering fun, hands on learning for ages 9 to15. As well as SAT Prep for Highschool students. Each one or two week session encourages creativity, confidence, and new skills through engaging, project based activities.
In partnership with the Culinary Arts Institute and the Office of Cultural Affairs, this summer features programs including Digital Photography, Journalism, CPR & First Aid for Teens, SAT Prep, Baking/Cooking for Teens, Baking weeks, Cooking weeks, and Chess.
Programs run 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and provide a safe, supportive, and exciting environment where students can learn, make friends, and enjoy an unforgettable summer.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY:
Ages 9 - 15 YRS OLD
This course offers a creative opportunity for anyone with or without experience who are interested in improving their skills in digital photography. Using any digital camera we will examine the concept of exposure, color balance, and composition and lighting techniques. We may explore projects like macro (close-up) photography, landscape, portraiture and learn about post-production editing at HCCC computer lab.
The week includes a field trip to a local destination for an on-location photo shoot & a Photo exhibit at the end of the week of each photographer.

YOUNG REPORTERS BOOTCAMP: (Journalism)
Ages 9 - 15 YRS OLD
Step into the world of journalism in this exciting 4 day bootcamp! Students will learn how to think like reporters, developing skills in interviewing, writing, and storytelling while covering real topics around them.
Throughout the week, participants will work on hands-on activities, collaborate with peers, and even partner with the Photography class to bring their stories to life through images.
The camp will culminate in a special mock press conference, where students will have the opportunity to interview a guest speaker, JUST LIKE REAL REPORTERS!
Campers will build confidence, creativity, and communication skills while discovering the power of their voice.

CPR & FIRST AID FOR TEENS:
Ages 9 - 15 YRS OLD
This Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) class uses a scenario-based approach to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that drive better outcomes for adult, child, and infant patients. Some of the topics include:

CHECKMATE CHAMPIONS: CHESS & STRATEGY CAMP:
Ages 9 - 15 YRS OLD
Get ready for four exciting days of strategy, competition, and fun! This interactive camp is perfect for students who want to learn or improve their chess skills in an engaging and supportive environment. Led by a tournament winning instructor, students will explore key strategies, play daily matches, and take part in mini tournaments, puzzles, and fun challenges like speed and human chess. Campers will build critical thinking, focus, and confidence, all while having a great time both on and off the board.

SAT PREP CLASSES:
RECOMMENDED AGES: HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Get a jump-start on the SAT and impress those college recruiters with this 2 week test preparation program. Learn to use basic problem solving techniques to strengthen your abilities, while avoiding careless mistakes. Test taking skills will be provided, along with test samples from actual SAT exams.

BAKING/COOKING WEEK- *FOR TEENS!*
Ages 13 - 17 YRS OLD
Calling all TEEN FOODIES! Spend four delicious days in the kitchen learning how to cook and bake like a pro. From savory dishes to sweet treats, students will gain hands-on experience, learn essential kitchen skills, and create recipes they’ll be proud to share.
This fun and interactive camp builds confidence, creativity, and independence. Perfect for beginners and aspiring young chefs alike

BAKING CULINARY PROGRAM -
Ages 9 - 15 YRS OLD
Baking Description - Students will learn to bake kid-friendly desserts from around the world. Staring with basic knife skills and kitchen safety, students will develop techniques that build confidence in the kitchen. You can expect to make European classics such as Cream puff and Apple tarts. As well as explore modern bakeshop techniques with chocolate twists and bread pudding.

COOKING CULINARY PROGRAM
Cooking Description - Students will learn to cook kid-friendly dishes with global flavors. Staring with basic knife skills and kitchen safety, students will develop techniques that build confidence in the kitchen. You can expect to make homemade pasta from scratch, a basic marinara sauce and toaster oven pizza. Steak tacos and chicken paella will round out our culinary journey.
