Discover the diverse birdlife of Eagle Marsh on an Indiana Audubon birding field trip and explore 756 acres of wetland paradise.
While summer birding might not be at its peak, Eagle Marsh Nature Preserve offers Allen County's best chance for rare sightings. With nesting season in full swing, join us in spotting breeding birds including swallows, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Sora, Virginia Rail, Sedge Wren, Marsh Wren, Prothonotary Warbler, and perhaps even a Bell's Vireo.
Eagle Marsh Nature Preserve spans 831 acres on Fort Wayne's southwest border, boasting diverse habitats such as shallow-water wetlands, sedge meadows, prairies, and mature forests. As part of a broader network of natural lands, it provides crucial habitat for birds and wildlife. Additionally, it's a highlighted site on Indiana Audubon's Indiana Birding Trail, attracting birders and nature enthusiasts alike.
Field trip leader Michael Filosa will meet registered participants at the parking lot by Eagle Marsh Barn ( 6801 Engle Rd. ) at 10 a.m. ET. (9 a.m. CT). The group will stroll the barn road along the continental divide trail for 2 to 3 miles. While the terrain is relatively flat, anticipate potentially longer grass. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring bug spray.
All participants must read and agree to the IAS Field Trip Release to participate in IAS led events and trips. This field trip is $5 for IAS Members and $10 for non-members.
