Please join us on Thursday, June 25, for our first summer battlefield walk of the season "Plowshares To Swords: Moses McClean Farm" with Licensed Battlefield Guide Jasan Hileman.
Join Licensed Battlefield Guide Jasan Hileman for a comprehensive look at the Moses McClean farm within the Gettysburg National Military Park. Situated along the Mummasburg Road just north of town, the farm location becomes a collision point of contending armies on July 1. Like many of the ‘battlefield farms’, it’s history before and after the battle are largely forgotten. Journey back in time as Jasan reviews the story of the family living on the farm and how they coped with hundreds of troops and horses tramping through their crops, occupying their buildings, and taking their possessions. Through careful research of tax records, property deeds, and damage claims he brings their story alive.
Jasan resides in Greencastle, PA with his wife Denise. They will celebrate their 34th wedding anniversary this August. They have three children, Cole (29), Camron (26), and Ella (23). Jasan is an electrical engineering graduate of Penn State University, retired from FirstEnergy Corp after 34 years and is now employed at Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative in Winchester, VA. Jasan has been reading and studying American Civil War history for 35 years; became a Licensed Battlefield Guide on September 15, 2016 so a 10yr anniversary is in the near future. Jasan has served as the President and Secretary of the Cumberland Valley Civil War Round Table, based in Chambersburg, PA. Aside from providing tours at Gettysburg, Jasan also provides tours at the Brandy Station Battlefield in Culpeper County, Virginia for Culpeper Battlefield Tours LLC. Jasan and Denise are active in the Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport, MD. Jasan enjoys DIY projects, watching Pittsburgh sports teams, hunting, and reading and collecting Civil War books.
The summer walks are a member benefit. Visitors are welcome, but we do ask that you make a donation to our Preservation Fund if you are attending, or better yet, become a member! Information about membership can be found at https://cwrtgettysburg.org/membership. At only $30 for an individual or $45 for a family, it's a value that can't be beat!
The tour will involve some gentle walking. Please bring water, a camp chair, and bug spray as desired.
We will be meeting at the Eternal Light Peace Memorial along the Mummasburg Road. Hope to see you all there!
