Summer Solstice Women's Gathering
About this Event
Summer Solstice Women's Gathering
Here's something most people don't know: the summer solstice isn't just the longest day of the year. It's also the day the light begins to leave.
We stand at the peak, and from that very peak, the days slowly, quietly start to shorten again. The sun is at its fullest — and it begins its retreat, all in the same breath. Bittersweet and beautiful. Once you know it, you can't unknow it.
This is exactly why people have marked this night for thousands of years.
Ancient Egyptians believed the Nile began to rise on this night, fed by the tears of Isis weeping for what she had lost. Chinese philosophers called it the peak of Yang energy — and understood that within the peak, Yin was already returning. Polish villages lit bonfires on Noc Kupały and leapt through the flames. German communities climbed hills at dusk to build the Sonnenwende fire. Ancient Irish women followed the goddess Áine — whose name means brightness — in torchlit procession to the hilltop.
Different traditions. Different hills. Same fire. Same knowing that the wheel is turning.
I want to mark it with you.
Summer Solstice Women's Gathering Saturday, June 20th · Bel Air (address shared upon registration) · Free
6:00 pm — Optional potluck gathering / bring a dish if the spirit moves you
7:00 pm — A short program indoors: a little history, a grounding meditation, and quiet time with reflection prompts
7:20 pm — We move outside to the fire pit to burn what we're ready to release
This is a free community gathering offered each year — just a fire, some optional howling, and the ancient human act of standing together at a threshold. Space is intimate and limited.
Come as you are. The ancestors will meet us there.
