Summer Sessions 2026 : Musical Dance Workshop by Chris Stuart-Wilson ( In-person & Online Live)
Musical Dance: Storytelling, Style & Theatrical Energy
Move like you mean it. Musical dance brings together technique, performance, and storytelling — and this Summer Session is your chance to step into that world in a fun, welcoming way.
Class ?
Ever watched a musical and thought: I want to move like that?
Musical dance (often linked with musical theatre and stage performance) is all about dancing with character, intention, and presence. It blends strong dance foundations with theatricality — so it’s not just about doing the steps, but about communicating something through the movement.
In this workshop, Chris will guide you through a musical dance experience that builds confidence, fitness, and style — with a focus on performance quality and enjoying the process. You’ll explore movement that feels expressive and stage-ready, and you’ll have space to play with musicality, storytelling, and your own personality in the dance.
Teacher?
Chris Stuart-Wilson is a “Third Culture Kid” who moved into the performing arts after graduating with a degree in Medical Science. Alongside teaching a wide range of ages and abilities, Chris has a portfolio career that includes directing and choreography for professional (musical) theatre, and facilitating dance for vulnerable people — including work with people living with dementia, which received global recognition in 2017/18. He writes and performs his own material, including the internationally acclaimed Jesus L’Oreal, and has been teaching at Dance Base for 16 years. His focus is on style, fitness, and theatricality.
About the style
Musical dance comes from the world of musical theatre, where dance is used to support storytelling on stage — alongside acting and singing. Over time, it has been shaped by many influences including jazz, commercial dance, and theatre choreography, and it’s known for its big energy, clear performance quality, and expressive movement. Musical dance invites you to bring technique and personality together — dancing not only with your body, but with your presence.
Who’s it for?
Anyone who wants a joyful, expressive class that blends dance with performance. Great for all levels — especially if you want to build confidence, explore theatricality, and enjoy dancing with character and story.
