This summer school is ideally suited for researchers with a keen interest in EEG-based multimodal data collection in joint action settings (hyperscanning) within sport psychology, social psychology, and neuroscience fields. It is intensively designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of joint actions from multiple perspectives, including cutting-edge technologies, advanced signal analysis, and social psychology theories. Additionally, you'll develop essential soft skills in areas such as entrepreneurship, ethics, and networking.

Post-Doc Researcher, Behavioral Imaging and Neural Dynamics (BIND) Center, University of Chieti-Pescara G. d'Annunzio, Italy

He is currently a post-doc researcher in Movement and Sport Sciences at the Behavioral Imaging and Neural Dynamics (BIND) Center (University of Chieti-Pescara G. d'Annunzio, Italy) with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Imaging.

His current research is focused on studying the neurophysiological underpinnings of intra- and inter-personal coordination and motor control from a real-world and multi-modal perspective.

His methodological expertise mainly includes the use of EEG, ECG, and 3D motion capture systems as well as the use of the hyperscanning technology for the simultaneous recording of multimodal signals from two or more interacting subjects.

Associate Professor, Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, Boston University, United States of America

Dr. Edson Filho is an associate professor of sport, exercise & performance psychology at Boston University, where he is also the director of the Performance, Recovery & Optimization (PRO) Lab. Dr. Filho’s research centers on performance optimization in individual and team settings. He studies the individual and shared zones of optimal functioning as well as the relationship among team processes (e.g., cohesion, team mental models, and collective efficacy). He is also interested in developing applied interventions for performance optimization and mental health for athletes and performers across domains.

Dr. Filho is the author of over 100 manuscripts and book chapters and has edited two books on mental skills training in sports and research directions in the field. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and an Established Supervisor and Established Practitioner registered with the International Society of Sport Psychology. He has worked as a consultant for professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes. His work on performance optimization has been funded by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and been featured in media outlets including BBC Latin America, the Boston Globe, Nature Lindau, and Scientific American.

Dr. Frank Zanow studied Electrical Engineering at TU Ilmenau (Germany) and received his Ph.D. from the University of Twente (The Netherlands) in 1997 in the field of Applied Physics. During this time, he was involved in the design and implementation of a complex electro- and magnetoencephalographic (EEG, MEG) data analysis platform. The resulting software demarked the starting point for the establishment of the company ANT (Advanced Neuro Technology). Since the establishment of ANT Neuro in 1997, Dr. Zanow successfully led and expanded ANT through skillful management, building a great team focused on the development of innovative hardware and software products. The company now operates globally and provides innovative neuroscience and mental health related solutions, which are in continuous evolution to satisfy an ever-growing market.

Between 2014 and 2024, Dr. Zanow was temporarily enrolled as EU researcher at various European universities and remains actively involved in innovation. He is author and co-author of numerous publications related to EEG instrumentation and EEG/MEG applications. To date, Dr. Zanow is the CEO of several entities, which have a strong presence within the global neuroscience and healthcare market.

Associate Professor (Habilitation), Department of Physics, University of Minho, Portugal

Filipe Vaz graduated in Physics and Chemistry - from the University of Minho in 1992. That same year he joined the Department of Physics at the University of Minho. In 1996 he presented his Master Dissertation, immediately beginning work leading to the Doctorate degree. He completed his PhD in May 2000 with the Thesis entitled “Preparation and Characterization of Ti1-xSixNy Thin Films, grown by Reactive Magnetron Sputtering”. In 2012 he did his aggregation (habilitation) exam, becoming Associate Professor with Aggregation. In March 2018, he was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Transylvanian University of Brasov, Romania. He was also awarded the Municipal Cultural Merit Medal from the Vila Nova de Famalicão City (his hometown) Council in July 2018. He is (was) responsible (PI or responsible at the University of Minho) for 31 research projects, corresponding to a total funding of nearly €3 million for the University of Minho. In addition to these, he was (is) a member of the research team in 20 other research projects, corresponding to a total funding of almost €2.5 million for the University of Minho. He supervised/co-supervised 7 Post-Docs, 14 PhD students, and 40 MSc. Main research topics concern nanostructured thin films for protective and sensing applications, optical thin film systems, and films with Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance behavior. He co-authored more than 280 papers in indexed international journals (Scopus: h index of 44, >6200 citations; WoS: h index of 40, >5600 citations) and three patents. He was Vice-Dean and President of the Pedagogical Council of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho between 2010 and 2013. He was Pro-Rector of the University of Minho from 2013 to 2021.

He has extensive experience in business creation, market launching and operations’ consolidations, in many sectors: business consulting, digital marketing, neuroscience, and digital health. During the last six years he has been dedicated to the general and operations directions at BRAINVESTIGATIONS, and for the last three years, he has been focused on the spin-off CONECTIVA, an Innovative Digital Health BI owned company. Within the EMBRACE project, MSc. Morera is in charge of the business applications and evolutions coming from the consortium R&D for partner BI.

Rumeysa holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and master's and PhD degrees in neurosciences. After years of academic endeavors, she decided to pursue a career in startups to apply her scientific knowledge in the neurotech field. She then joined ANT Neuro as a project manager. Currently, she works as the Senior Key Account Manager and Business Developer at eemagine. Rumeysa is also a certified professional coach from the International Coaching Federation and a mentor at EIT Health.

Junior Professor, Department of "Data Analysis in Life Sciences", Technische Universität Ilmenau, Germany

Patrique Fiedler studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Technical University of Ilmenau and received his doctorate in biomedical engineering in 2017. He then moved to industry from 2017 to 2021 and held various development, project and product management positions. In addition, Mr. Fiedler was a visiting scientist at the University of Porto (Portugal), the University of Pescara-Chieti (Italy), the Complutense Universidad de Madrid (Spain). Since 2021, Patrique Fiedler is Junior Professor with Tenure Track and Head of the Department of "Data Analysis in Life Sciences" at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Automation. Moreover, he currently is an assistant adjunct professor at the McGovern Medical School of the University of Texas in Houston, USA. His research interests include data fusion and analysis of multimodal datasets and body sensor networks, as well as the exploration of novel sensor concepts for biomedical engineering. Another focus is the development of online-capable analysis methods for close-to-sensor data processing.

Silvia Comani is Full Professor of Applied Physics and affiliated to the Department of Neuroscience, Imaging and Clinical Sciences at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). Prof. Comani is Scientific Consultant for Translational and Technological Innovation in Neuroscience at the private hospital “Casa di Cura Villa Serena”, Città S. Angelo (Pescara, Italy) and member of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation "Villaserena per la Ricerca".

Prof. Comani is the Primary Coordinator of the EMBRACE European Project (www.projectembrace.eu), and has been the Local Coordinator of the INFANS European Project (www.infansproject.eu ) and the Primary Coordinator of the ANDREA European Project (www.andreaproject.eu ).

The research focus of Prof. Comani is on biomedical signal processing, specifically the development of novel analytical methods for denoising EEG signals and for evaluating functional and effective connectivity in the adult and infant brain. Main applications include: perinatal neuroscience, adult neuroscience, behavioral dynamics, motor behavior and neuro-motor rehabilitation, neuroscience of joint action and social interactions. Prof. Comani is author and co-author of more than 100 scientific articles published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and serves as reviewer for 34 international peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Milana Komosar is an electrical engineer and research fellow at Technische Universität Ilmenau in Germany, specializing in neural engineering and signal processing. She is experienced in study planning and conducting experiments with dry EEG technology, focusing on EEG signal quality assessment and improvement. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at TU Ilmenau.

Neuroscience Researcher, Università degli Studi 'Gabriele d'Annunzio'​ di Chieti, Italy

Dr. Raeisi is a Neuroscience and Imaging researcher with expertise in bio-signal processing and brain monitoring systems. During her PhD, She collaborated with various institutions and industry partners, focusing on developing algorithms to monitor neonatal brain activity and detect brain injuries. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher working on motion artifact removal and network physiology to understand biological system interactions during table tennis rallies. With a background in Biomedical Engineering, she contributes through research and publications on data analytics and machine learning applications in healthcare.

Senior Researcher, Center for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience, Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain

MsC in Telecommunications Engineering, PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Bruna studies brain function from the perspective of electrophysiology, focusing on the reconstruction of sources-space activity from EEG and MEG data, and the estimation of functional connectivity within the brain. He is a Senior Researcher in the Center for Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience of the UCM, and leader of the Methods research line. Dr. Bruna is also an Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, teaching Medical Physics and Biomedical Instrumentation.

Dr. Gabriella Tamburo has a degree in electronic engineering with focus in biomedical, she is currently a Post Doctoral Researcher of Applied Physics and affiliated to the Department of Neuroscience, Imaging and Clinical Sciences at the University “G.d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). She has participated in three European Projects: the ANDREA European Project (www.andreaproject.eu), the INFANS European Project (www.infansproject.eu), the EMBRACE European Project, (www.embraceproject.eu). In the INFANS project was additionally the tutor of two PhDs.

The research of Dr. Gabriella Tamburro is on biomedical signal recording and processing, specifically ranging from using of non-invasive measurement techniques , especially EEG, to the development of signal processing algorithm, focusing on the study and development of methodologies for removal artifacts from biomedical signals and on the evaluation of functional connectivity of the brain.

Dr. Khazei received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience as part of the European INFANS project. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher within the EMBRACE project, where his work focuses on motion artifact removal and network physiology aiming to understand how different biological systems interact with each other in different conditions during table tennis rallies. His research interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence, bio-signal processing, healthcare, and wearable technology, for innovative solutions in medical diagnostics and cognitive neuroscience.

Filippo Zappasodi is Associate Professor of Applied Physics at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara (Italy). He is manager of high density EEG laboratory at Institute for Advanced Biomedical Technologies (www.itab.unich.it). His main research interests are on biomedical signal processing and multimodal data integration and analysis for human brain mapping (EEG/MEG, TMS, NIRS, transcranial current stimulation). Main fields of research application are: adult neuroscience, motor behavior, plasticity and recovery from neurological damage, brain dynamics and functional connectivity. He is author and co-author of more than 100 scientific articles published in International peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The venue is in the popular area of Friedrichshain located close to Spree river and in one of the most popular areas with a lot of touristic spots around, ensuring our scientific summer school to be a memorable one!
