Enjoy the awe-inspiring sound of the Cathedral’s magnificent organ as the evening sun reflects on the unparalleled architecture of the nave during our summer recital series. These concerts will feature some of the country’s leading players, performing a veritable feast of varied organ music, with a video-link to the organ loft, enabling the audience to see the magic unfold on the keys at close quarter.
The photo shows a headshot of Exeter Cathedral Organ Scholar, Giles Longstaff, wearing a black shirt and red jumper. Giles Longstaff is currently Organ Scholar at Exeter Cathedral. He received his first primary musical training as a chorister at York Minster and then continued his musical development as a Music and Organ Scholar at Magdalen College School, Oxford. In between stretches at Oxford, Giles served as the Organ Scholar at Blackburn Cathedral in 2019 before moving on to Worcester College, Oxford, where, as Organ Scholar, while studying for a degree in music, his roles involved accompanying the majority of services, assisting in training the choristers and conducting services. As Organ Scholar at the Cathedral, Giles’ roles involve training the probationers, and accompanying both the Cathedral Choir and the St. Peter’s Singers (the Cathedral’s voluntary choir). Besides playing the organ, Giles enjoys developing his singing further, previously as part of the University of Oxford’s Schola Cantorum, having taken part in masterclasses with James Gilchrist and the Tallis Scholars.
