Summer Oil Painting Workshop Part I: Greyscale Foundations of Oil Painting

This immersive two-day workshop, 9:00am-4:00pm, introduces the fundamental principles of oil painting. Working exclusively with a limited monochrome palette (black, white, and grey), students will master medium control, confident brushwork, and the essentials of value, light, and shadow.
Using a sequential atelier-style approach, core techniques are introduced through live instructor demonstrations and structured exercises before being applied to complete studies.

About the Instructor
Lyndon Simmons is a Canadian painter and educator whose practice combines traditional oil painting techniques with contemporary approaches to narrative and observation.
His teaching is grounded in an atelier-style approach developed through personal studio practice and years of working with students at different stages of development. Lyndon has taught oil painting at the Ottawa School of Art, where he focuses on structured skill-building, observation, and repetition to help students develop technical confidence and independence in their painting practice.
His artistic development has also been supported through residency programs, including the Ottawa School of Art Artist-in-Residence program and a summer residency at the New York Academy of Art.
Rather than focusing on stylistic imitation or short-term outcomes, Lyndon's instruction is centred on building transferable fundamentals that support long-term artistic growth.
