Step into the Summer of SOULFEST, a BIPOC-centered klnky celebration of '90s R&B. Relive the golden era of slow jams, club bangers, and unapologetic sensuaIity; where the bass wrapped around you, the melodies hit deep, and every moment felt like a scene straight out of an R&B music video!

This is much more than a party! it’s a throwback to the vibes that shaped us. The era of silk sets, baggy jeans, leather fits, bandanas, and Timberlands. Of basement kickbacks, late-night radio dedications, and dance floors filled with nothing but feeling. As for the music? We’re taking it back with Aaliyah, TLC, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men, SWV, Ginuwine, and more! The sounds that defined a generation and set the tone for everything that came after.

📍 Location: Private studio near Union Square (full address in confirmation email)

WHO CAN ATTEND

Obsidian Playground is an intentional, BIPOC-centered space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color of all genders and orientations. If you do not identify as BIPOC, you may attend only if you are accompanying a BIPOC partner. We reserve the right to remove anyone who disrupts the comfort or safety of the space. You must be 21+ to attend.

WHAT TO WEAR

We’re going for Music Video Fly (90s Edition). We’d like you to fully capture the smooth, sexy, and effortlessly cool energy of a 90s R&B music video. Think BET after dark, basement kickbacks, and dimly lit dance floors where the slow jams hit just right:

• Baggy jeans & oversized fits: Worn low, relaxed, and unapologetically cool.
• Crop tops, bralettes, & fitted tanks: Simple, sexy, and effortless.
• Mini skirts & slip dresses: Satin, leather, or anything that catches the light.
• Leather pieces: Jackets, pants, or full monochrome looks.
• Matching sets: Coordinated but still laid-back.
• Boots or strappy heels: From Timberlands to sleek night-out heels.

• Baggy jeans & loose silhouettes: The looser, the better.
• Open button-ups & silk shirts: Chest out, chain visible.
• Tank tops & sleeveless fits: Clean, simple, and confident.
• Leather & denim layers: Vests, jackets, or full sets.
• Durags, fitted caps, or bandanas: Styled with intention.
• Timbs, classic sneakers, or boots: Effortless and grounded.

• Gold chains, hoops, and statement jewelry: Keep it bold, keep it shining.
• Bandanas, sunglasses, and headwear: That signature 90s attitude.
• Glossy lips & soft glow makeup: Smooth, subtle, and radiant.
