About this Event

Join Claire Vaughn, Head of School at Advent Episcopal School, and interior designer and entrepreneur Zoë Gowen for The Business of Creativity and Care - a conversation about what it really takes to lead people-centered organizations. From education to design, both women lead thriving businesses grounded in emotional intelligence, thoughtful leadership, and strategic focus. Together, they will discuss creative problem-solving, operational realities and what growth truly looks like in our community.

Zoë Gowen is an entrepreneur, interior stylist, and founder of Zoë Gowen Interiors, a residential decorating firm recognized for its refined, highly personal approach to Southern living and design. After more than a decade at Southern Living — where she served as Senior Home & Garden Editor and led the magazine’s renowned Idea House program — Zoë transitioned her editorial expertise into a thriving design business built around storytelling, hospitality, and timeless interiors.

As a business owner, Zoë has cultivated a multifaceted brand that blends interior design, retail, editorial consulting, and creative direction. In addition to leading her decorating studio, she founded El Shoppo, a curated home and lifestyle shop that reflects her signature layered aesthetic and entrepreneurial vision. Known for combining strategic thinking with creative instinct, Zoë brings an editor’s eye and a founder’s perspective to every project, creating spaces and experiences that feel both elevated and deeply authentic.

Claire Cassady Vaughn is an educational leader and organizational executive serving as Head of School at Advent Episcopal School in Birmingham, Alabama. Since stepping into the role in 2021, she has overseen the strategic direction, operations, advancement, and community leadership of the independent school, guiding an institution that functions much like a mission-driven small business — balancing long-term growth, financial stewardship, enrollment strategy, fundraising, faculty leadership, and brand development while maintaining a strong commitment to student success and community engagement.
Claire holds a Master of Education from Vanderbilt Peabody College and a bachelor’s degree in Child Studies. Under her leadership, Advent Episcopal School continues to thrive as one of Birmingham’s leading independent schools, serving families with a forward-thinking approach rooted in strong values, meaningful relationships, and operational excellence.
