Our drop-off programs begin at10:00am, but drop-offs are welcome starting at 9:45. Pickup time is 12:30. All days include the immersion program, a snack (please mention if your child has any allergies), and time to explore in the museum and/or learning park.
This program is best suited for ages 7 and up due to some of the materials we will be handiing.
Monday 8/12 - Hard as a Rock
Students will discover what can be found in some rocks by breaking open geodes. Then they will try their hand at carving soapstone with simple sanding tools, all while learning about minerals and how different rocks are formed.
Tuesday 8/13 - All things in the Sky
Students will explore how stars are formed with hands-on projects like Star-Formation and Nebula Spin Art. There will also be a special space themed escape room challenge.
Wednesday 8/14 - Plants and Fall Crops
Students will learn there is still time to grow vegetables and fruit before the end of the growing season, and find out how climate change has extended our growing zone. They will make their own special gardens to take home by planting a variety of things that will grow outside before the season ends in October. Students will also learn what other sorts of foods were grown in the early days of New England.
Thursday 8/15 - The Animal Kingdom
In continuation of yesterday's program, students will learn the impact of bees and their contribution to a variety of things we eat and make. Students will explore what a hive looks like, what bees look like, taste different types of honey, try on special glasses that simulate compound eyes, and make their very own beeswax candles to take home.
Students will also have an opportunity to explore our wildlife studio and meet some of our friendly animals, perhaps even take our resident tortoise out for a walk on the second floor.
Friday 8/16- Summer Sun Fun
Students will learn the importance of the sun for everything on Earth. They will create a shadow picture using cyanotype paper and found materials, and investigate bubbles creating pictures with blown bubbles and paint.
