Summer guided tours of the Preservation Centre

This summer, Library and Archives Canada’s Preservation Centre in Gatineau, Quebec, is opening its doors to the public. Explore behind the scenes on one of our guided tours, offered every Friday from July 10 to August 14, 2026.

Opened in 1997, this architectural gem features secure vaults designed to protect archival materials. It also houses laboratories where our specialists digitize documents and carry out a variety of restoration treatments.

During the approximately 70-minute tour, you'll explore areas normally closed to the public, discover works by Canadian artists, and learn how our specialists work every day to preserve history. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we safeguard your documentary heritage!

The Preservation Centre is located at 625 du Carrefour Boulevard in Gatineau, Quebec.

Parking is available. You have to pay online using the Indigo website.

The Société de transport de l’Outaouais (Rapibus) Station de la Cité is just a few minutes walk from the Preservation Centre; more parking is available there.

Coats and large bags (including handbags) must be left in the cloakroom. Lockers and locks are available.

1. Drinks and food are prohibited, as are ballpoint pens, but pencils are permitted.
2. Cameras are allowed, but the flash must not be used if documents are being shown.
3. The tour involves walking and standing, so wear comfortable shoes!
4. You must stay with the group throughout the tour.
