Calling all young filmmakers, actors, and writers!
FilmGate Miami returns with our successful summer program to teach young artist how to write, shoot, edit an entire short film in two weeks!

This two-week day camp is a crash-course in all skills related to the creating short content. Young artists will learn how to write short scripts, how to operate professional cameras (Panasonic), how to light, how to direct actors and edit a scene and do special effects and color correcting (Da Vinci Resolve).

Students will learn from experienced filmmakers, actors and university professors.

Open to all students aged 12-17!  


We have 1 session:

August 2 to August 13


Students will graduate with a completed short film to use for their portfolios. 

Students are welcome to take both sessions and graduate with two short films for their portfolio!

Daily Schedule:

10 days (2 Weeks) Monday through Friday

drop off window 9am to 10am/breakfast provided

10am to 4pm workshop activities

Lunch is provided.

Pickup Window 4pm to 5:30pm

Note, all materials/professional equipment are provided


Faculty List

Instructor: Diliana Alexander

Diliana Alexander is the Executive Director of FilmGate Miami. Diliana Alexander studied Economics, Finance, and International Relations at McGill University and later the University of Toronto. She completed her MFA in Film Production at the Miami International University of Art and Design.

Diliana began her career in Canada as a producer, where she worked for CBC, HGTV, the Learning Channel, and Showtime. She is especially interested in the convergence of art, science, and technology. She also teaches film at Florida International University and is directing a feature film based on the young adult novel NARC, written by Florida book award winner Crissa Jean Chappell. 

 

About FilmGate

We are not-for-profit collective for filmmakers and actors that promotes filmmaking and film appreciation across South Florida. Our events such as the FilmGate Interactive Media Festival and the Filmgate Short Film Festival monthly film festival have received national media attention and attract artists and attendees from cities across the world. Our specific goals include bringing more film jobs to Florida, supporting interactive and traditional content creators, and fighting for gender parity in filmmaking. We are proud to be a cornerstone of the local film community.


The Downtown Media Center

This camp will be located at and around FilmGate's Downtown Media Center, a multimedia co-working space inside the historic Huntington Building. Classes will be held in the beating heart of Miami, walking distance from the Silverspot Cinema, Mana Contemporary, Perez Art Museum, and Bayside Market. 


Transportation

-If driving to the Downtown Media Center, please park valet at the Courtyard by Marriott, 200 SE 2nd St. Tell the attendant you are with FilmGate, and bring us your ticket for validation. With validation, parking is just $5 for every 4-hour period and $10 for a 8-hour period.

For dropoff, pull into the parking lot next to the Downtown Media Center (153 NE 2nd Ave). Please avoid parking in this lot or stalling for too long, because attendants may ticket you.

For Metro transit, ride to Government Center station and then take the Brickell Loop to the Knight Center station, located inside the Miami Tower. Take the escalator downstairs, cross SE 2nd St, and walk through the parking lot to arrive just next to the Downtown Media Center.
