Suminagashi: Meditative Paper Marbling Workshop at Ocean Plant

Ground into the nature of art, ink, paper, and water as you learn the meditative art of Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese marbling process, at Ocean Plant, located on the beach in San Francisco's Outer Richmond neighborhood.

Guided by Kelly Laughlin, founder of Odette Press, you'll connect to creativity through ink, breath, paper, and water, and find inspiration in this landscape-inspired artmaking session as you root into the inspiring Ocean Plant space with a view of the ocean. Come curious, make marbled papers, and leave feeling inspired and rooted into the meditative nature of the Suminagashi process.

This workshop is great for beginners, or anyone seeking a relaxing, simple creative experience, and all materials are provided.

The Flow:

Settle into your spot at the Ocean Plant table and find inspiration in the tranquility of the oceanside environment. You'll be guided through a creative prompt to inspire your start of the session. You'll learn how to paint on water using Suminagashi inks in a short demonstration. The rest of the time is yours to go with the flow and drop into the experience of making your marbled papers. Relax into color, wonder, breath, paper, and inspiration as you explore this nature-inspired marbling process, and leave feeling revived and refreshed.
