About this Event
Art Educator Liz Menard will direct participants through learning the art of Suminagashi. Learn how to float inks on the surface of water, and create stunning marbled paper with her guidance. Suminagashi has an extensive history in Japan, where it has been an art form since the 12th century.

About Suminagashi
Created on water, these designs exhibit a naturally fluid and dynamic quality, with patterns that appear in motion. With practice, a degree of control can be achieved, leading to intricate results. Historically, suminagashi paper provided a subtle yet striking background for calligraphy. Currently, it finds use in a wide array of creative endeavors, including bookbinding, stationery, collage, mixed media, and calligraphy.
Participants will be provided with all materials to make their own Suminagashi papers.
