About this Event
Have you ever been curious about how people in movies can jump through a glass window or have bottles being broken over their head without getting hurt? Come learn all about isomalt, a sugar material that can look like glass, feel like glass, but washes away with water, melts if left in a hot car, and actually tastes good--just don't eat too much of it!
In this workshop we will do the following:
1. Go over safety when working with hot sugar
2. Learn the basics of how sugar glass responds to the environment (heat, water, etc)
3. Try blowing our own sugar glass balls
Participants are encouraged to bring a leaf, flower, or other small object that has a smell that reminds them of home.
This workshop is best suited to people 8 and above for safety reasons. Please wear long sleeves.
Workshop is taught by Dr. Christy Spackman. Spackman holds a culinary certificate from Kendall College and is an Associate Professor of Art/Science at Arizona State University. You can learn about her work here: www.christyspackman.com
Accessibility: ground floor, wheel chair accessible, no steps
