Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in my $350 crafting fee?
Think of the crafting fee as an onboard excursion culminating in a completed photo-ready album of your trip. You will receive 10 beach-themed 2-page 12x12 page kits at the beginning of your cruise to complete at your leisure. You can crop as much or as little as you like during the trip. A tote bag will be provided to you onboard for easy mobility of your scrapbook supplies and tools. You are also invited to attend 2 scrapbooking classes, where you will complete 6 additional 2-page layouts. And because scrapbooking is not complete without creative challenges, goodies, and surprises, there will be plenty of those throughout the week as well!
Can you tell me about the two classes I’ll be taking?
Classes are great for learning tips and tricks as well as just getting a creativity kickstart. You will complete six 2-page beach-themed layouts in the classes and leave with loads of ideas for more designs.
Class #1: The Elephant (or Turtle) in the Room: Of course your photos are the highlight of every scrapbook layout, but every now and then, it’s fun to spice up a design with a large element. In this class, we will be using large decals to draw the eye across the page and give your layout a little (or big!) something extra.
Class #2: Trash to Treasure: One woman’s trash is another woman’s scrapbooking treasure! Before you toss those greeting cards or reuse that gift bag, take a second look. Many items that we would generally toss in the trash can be upcycled to make unique layouts. Not only will you give the item a second life, but you will love the end result on your page. In this class, you will be amazed at how a gift bag, cards, and a calendar can make amazing layouts.
Who is my class teacher and scrapbook host for the cruise?
Cammie Kramer finds joy in scrapbooking, which is why she’s been passionate about and committed to the hobby for thirty years. As a scrapbook store owner, Cammie taught weekly classes and hosted monthly crops before closing the door on retail and moving to an online space. Since then, she’s taught classes at the local level or via various conventions in Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. She currently attends several crops as a page-kit vendor near her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky and manages her Etsy shop, Sugar&SpiceKits, found at www.sugarandspicescrapbooks.com where shoppers can find more than 200 page kit designs. You can reach Cammie by email at [email protected] or you can also contact her by sending a message through her Etsy shop.
Sounds great, but how will I pack all my stuff?
The short answer is, you won’t. The items you will need to bring include scissors, a paper trimmer, your favorite adhesives, and either a hard shell container or soft sleeve with two pieces of cardboard to protect your pages. You will be working with page kits, meaning everything you need to complete the layout is already included. All kits are beach-themed, so your layouts will be photo-ready when you get home and are ready to scrapbook your trip. I do recommend, however, that you wait to cut and adhere your mats until you have your trip photos printed and in front of you. That way, you can adjust the orientation or number of photos to what you have, making the kit work for you rather than the other way around.
I love cropping, but will I still be able to spend time on other activities, excursions, and relaxation?
Absolutely! You’ll certainly want to spend port days exploring the different stops and taking in the beautiful beaches, culture, etc. Additionally, the ship has so many activities, restaurants, and other amenities to enjoy. (The thermal suite is AH-MAZING!) You will want to attend the two classes I’ll be teaching while the ship is at sea, but other than that, you can choose how much time you’d like to spend cropping. The ten page kits you receive at the beginning of the cruise are yours to complete at your own pace and convenience, as each includes directions and a color picture of the completed design.
Can I crop any time I want?
Of course! Our group will have use of a designated meeting room for the two classes and I will provide a list of areas suitable for scrapbooking for any other time you’d like to crop. Experience has taught me that a 24/7 private space for our group is not needed simply because there are so many things to do and experience on the ship. That said, there are several areas on the Eurodam that have nice table space with great lighting and even better views! You will absolutely be able to crop as much or as little as you like.
Will I need a passport?
A passport is highly recommended, though not required for U.S. citizens since this is a closed loop sailing (departing from and returning to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida). If you will be traveling without a passport, you will need to ensure you have the proper documentation before boarding. Visit Holland America’s Know Before You Go page for more information.
How will I get my new scrapbook pages home?
Packing your completed layouts in a hard container or bookending them with cardboard should offer sufficient protection to include them in your checked luggage. That said, you will be leaving with far more than you came with (which includes the scrapbook items as well as other shopping and souvenirs). Your new scrapbook pages will add approximately 8 pounds to your luggage. Thus, if the airline weight limit is making you anxious, I recommend the Lubardy travel backpack (approximately $30 on Amazon) for packing and carrying your items with you on the flight.
How do I register?
Book your cruise directly through Holland America by contacting our group's Personal Cruise Consultant, Peter McClung, whose contact information is below. Tell Peter you are booking with the Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks group, Booking Code TNT for voyage D686. You must book direct through Holland America with Peter to participate with the Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks group. Those booking with a private travel agent or site are not eligible to participate in the crafting event.
Side note: Peter is hosting a world cruise January – May 2026. He will still be working during that time with email, [email protected], being the best way to reach him. Peter also has a backup consultant, Megan Gottwald, to assist while he is on the world cruise. Megan can be reached by dialing 1-800-355-3017, choose option three, then ask for Megan or you can also schedule a call in her calendar by clicking www.calendly.com/mgottwald.
Once you have booked your cabin with Peter or Megan, email Cammie at [email protected] to let her know which passengers in your cabin will be crafting. The $350 crafting fee is separate from your cruise cost and is paid directly to Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks. Non-crafting cabin mates are not billed this fee. The fee is due 90 days prior to the departure date and can be invoiced through PayPal or paid by check. If you need to cancel your trip for any reason within 90 days of the sailing, you are eligible to receive a $300 refund on your crafting fee or you may opt to receive your 10 page kits, 6 class kits, and additional goodies via mail.
What former scrapbook cruisers had to say about sailing with Sugar & Spice Scrapbooks:
“I have been Scrapbooking for over 25 years so the opportunity to do something I love while on my first cruise was a no-brainer. Cammie surprised us daily with a scrapbook "goodie" I looked forward to receiving. Her designs for the page kits are beautiful and clear instructions are provided. The two class sessions we had were fun and informative. Cammie did the work of matching papers and embellishments so I can have the fun assembling everything. She did a superb job. I highly recommend it!” Donna Finnell
“The cruise was fun. It is especially nice to be on the same cruise with friends and to have the bonus of being able to do something I love, scrapbooking, in such a beautiful environment.” Loretta Aberli
“Cammie's Scrapbooking Cruise to Alaska was a dream come true for me! Not only did I get to experience the beauty of Alaska with great friends, but now I will have the entire trip memorialized by an amazing scrapbook album that was created while attending her classes and getting all of her scrapbook goodies and packages! Cammie is the real deal -- her page kits are awesome and they are one of a kind! Plus, her personalized attention to detail and to her scrapbookers' needs is phenomenal. I highly recommend going on a scrapbooking cruise organized by Cammie, and I cannot wait to add all of my pictures to my pages and show everyone my scrapbook! Plus I made new friends during the classes and cannot wait to reconnect with them again!” Jennifer Dolan
