Appropriately for Autumn, Suffolk Sinfonia presents a programme of classical swan songs - the overture to Rossini’s last Italian Opera, Mozart’s final concerto, and Tchaikovsky’s symphonic premonition of mortality. All three works showcase their composers at the height of their powers.Rossini was one of the most popular opera composers of his time, and his musically ambitious overtures continue to please audiences today. Mozart's love of the instrument is evident in every phrase of this most popular clarinet concerto, with an opening reminiscent of The Magic Flute leading to a sparkling and exuberant conclusion. Of Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony, he wrote to his brother "It is hard for me to tear myself away from it. I believe it comes into being as the best of my works".
Our virtuoso soloist, Sarah Williamson, is "A tenacious player" whose "sonorous timbre and natural musicality speak for themselves” - BBC Music Magazine.
We are excited to perform for you again, under the direction of our resident conductor, Neil Carlson.
