About this Event
An Audacious Variety Show Amplifying Women’s Voices!
On Wednesday, April 1st, we will be Showing Up for the Community AND Raising Funds for the Salt Cure Restaurant Recovery Fund. This is a fund helping independent and immigrant owned restaurants recover and reopen, keeping employees hired, rent paid and beloved community assets restored! So excited about our guests! Special guest Jillian Hiscock, the owner of A Bar of Their Own dedicated to all women's sports, all the time, has stepped up for her neighbors during this volatile time by opening the bar for donation drives and creating a safe space for all. Compelling Americana singer/songwriter Sarah Morris will bring us beautiful songs underscoring the importance of community! PLUS, Katie Eckeberger, a song leader with Singing Resistance will lead us through a sing-along of original songs she's written for this powerful movement. Ann Treacy with Women's March MN, the org who has been organizing every march, vigil and rally, will let us know where we're headed next. Stephanie March, creator of the Salt Cure Restaurant Recovery Fund, will share with us how this fund is supporting our neighbors.(All donations to the Salt Cure Fund are tax deductible.)AND our Island cast Dae Yang, Silvia Pontaza & Zippy Laske will be there along with host Sue Scott!

Creator, host Sue Scott is a veteran actor, who for 24 years was the female cast member on the public radio show A Prairie Home Companion. Since 2019, Sue has been thoroughly immersed in producing Island of Discarded Women live show & podcast. Special guest Jillian Hiscock is the owner of A Bar of Their Own, Minnesota’s first sports bar dedicated exclusively to women’s sports. A self-described sports nut, community builder, beer nerd and tireless advocate, Jillian has a background in team development, event management, and results-oriented leadership. While her glory days as a three-sport athlete in high school are long behind her, she has taken the skills she learned on the field and in life and applied them to this exciting new venture. Passionate about identifying inequities and working towards ways to eliminate barriers, Jillian is unapologetically optimistic about making the world a better place. Musical guest Sarah Morris is a Minneapolis-based Americana singer-songwriter whose crystalline voice and benevolent storytelling have earned her recognition as one of the Midwest’s most compelling musical voices. Her latest album, Say Yes, is a suggestion and an encouragement, a delicate search for the honest way forward. The Star Tribune’s Chris Riemenschneider praised her “Norah Jones-like approach to Americana, smoothing over its rough edges with a butter-velvety voice and an intimate songwriting style.”
“Island of Discarded Women…a popular happening dedicated to the idea that women’s voices must be heard.” --Chris Hewitt, Star Tribune
