Join us for an in-depth workshop on how to achieve success during East Bay Open Studios. Hosted by EBOS artist Jules Kobelin, this workshop is designed to help EBOS participants explore their own pathways to achieving their personal version of success. Together we will discuss goals and various approaches to making their open studio experience cost-effective, efficient, and rewarding. We will develop a customized checklist and by the end of this workshop, participants will have a clear roadmap for preparing, executing, and following up on their East Bay Open Studio experience.
Participants are encouraged to bring supplies for taking notes. The workshop is located at the Block Community Hub located in the 1955 Broadway building in Uptown Oakland. There are ample parking garage options near the event space like Franklin Plaza Garage, Telegraph Plaza Public Parking, or street parking.
This workshop is part of Oakland Art Murmur and East Bay Open Studios Artist Professional Development series designed to provide tools and insights to help artists navigate the art world while also making community connections within the East Bay’s vibrant artist scene.
Jules Kobelin is a British artist and designer, with a remarkable freelance career spanning over three decades. Her artwork has gained international acclaim, attracting clients from small businesses to corporations like Adobe and NASA.
In London, Jules graduated with a B.A. in Public Art from Chelsea College in London. She was awarded the Earthwatch Arts Fellowship for her painting. For her art direction, Jules was nominated in the British Hairdresser Awards and featured in The British Photography Journal.
After relocating to the East Bay, Jules worked as a freelance artist, graphic designer and filmmaker while raising her children. During this time Jules received a certificate from Berkeley Digital Film Institute and went on to Art Direct award-winning independent films, most notably: “East Side Sushi”(2014).
The Pandemic led Jules to her Berkeley art studio, reawakening her passion for painting. Her bold, colorful paintings reflect the surreal, the natural, and the combination of both into vivid multimedia works. Jules fosters community organizing the Gilman District fair and by participating in East Bay Open Studios.
Hosted by Oakland Art Murmur, East Bay Open Studios (EBOS) is a multi-weekend event that invites the public to experience art where it happens—inside artist studios, galleries, cultural hubs, and unexpected spaces. Since its inception, EBOS has been a free, family-friendly, self-guided tour showcasing the diverse creative talent of the East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties).
Each year, EBOS connects hundreds of artists with thousands of visitors across 12 cities, offering an immersive look into the work of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, glass and metal artists, fiber artists, and multimedia creators. More than an art event, EBOS sustains visual culture, fosters creative placemaking, and deepens appreciation for the region’s rich artistic communities.
