About This Course:
This free 6-hour course will be delivered in person by one of our friendly and experienced trainers in Chesterfield. We’ve designed this course to be easy to understand, even if you’re new to the topic or want to refresh your skills and knowledge. This course will help you feel more confident when talking to people about substance use
Who Is It For?
This training is for professionals who work with adults in Derbyshire, including:
- Health and social care staff
- Community support workers
- Staff and volunteers from charities, voluntary organisations, and community groups
Cost and Eligibility:
This training is funded by Derbyshire Public Health, making it free of charge for frontline professionals or volunteers in Derbyshire who work with adults in health services, social care, and community-based roles.

- How illegal drugs are sorted into different types
- What different drugs look like, their effects, and their risks
- The truth about drug myths
- The latest drug trends and health warnings
- How to give a brief intervention to support and motivate change
- How to refer someone for specialist drug support

- Delivered by an expert trainer
- Group activities and practice time
- A chance to ask questions and build your confidence
- An opportunity to meet and network with other Derbyshire professionals
By the end, you will feel more ready to speak to someone about their substance use; in fact, 100% of past learners said their confidence grew after taking this course.
Who are we?
The Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS), formerly known as the Derbyshire Alcohol Advice Service, has been delivering training on drugs and Alcohol for many years. In 2017, Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service became part of Derbyshire Recovery Partnership to deliver this training.
