Subject To Change Presents: Love, Peace & Spades

is a monthly game night for anyone looking for a fun space to kick it and bond over classic Black family games such as Bid Whist, Uno, Tunk/Tonk, Dominoes, and, of course, Spades—and if you need lessons, don’t worry, we got you!

This month marks our SECOND ANNUAL BLACK WOMEN’S APPRECIATION GAME NIGHT.
We will be honoring the efforts and talents of two members of our Black family who have shown up and shown out for our community in major ways.

Genelle Brooks-Petty: A true and living Jedi, Genelle Brooks-Petty is a fourth-generation resident of Leimert Park, a designer (BPC Interior Design), a community advocate (SoCal NOMA, SCOPE-LA), and a business owner whose social impact work positively impacts her neighborhood. As the owner of All Chill, a hip-hop-inspired ice cream company also in Leimert Park, Brooks-Petty connects her passion for culture, community, and confections with helping people live and work better.
Shani Burton: A longtime Leimert Park resident, Shani Burton has endeared herself to her community through her tireless work as an educator and community connector. As the creator of The Friends With Businesses Podcast, Burton provides a platform for Black entrepreneurs to raise awareness about their endeavors and create a network of support between entrepreneurs and listeners. Also, as an avid lover of games, you can find her slapping bones and playing spades consistently at house parties around the neighborhood or winning trivia prizes at monthly ‘Love, Peace & Spades’ gatherings.

Make sure you come hungry—the menu is delicioso! Come early—it’s Happy Hour! And bring friends or make some—it’s game night!
