City of Lost Souls (1983) is a German trans punk musical written and directed by Rosa von Praunheim, who was known for contributing to decades of queer activism and deeply influencing New German Cinema. The film follows a group of American expats seeking social acceptance in the boisterous cabaret scene. The ensemble of characters, most of which appear in their actual identities, include a black magic practitioner, a soon to be Soviet singing icon, and a dazzling nightclub star.
