About this Event
Join us on our series of Saturday morning get togethers for reading and discussion of the fantastic range of materials which the Manchester Poetry Library holds, plus online magazines, led by what’s open at the time and participants’ interests.
We tackle practical issues too and often have insights shared with us direct from Editors. You will come away with a sense of fellowship, more focussed understanding of individual magazines and ways to read them which help make submissions more effective. Publications we have explored previously include (for example) Acumen, Black Box Manifold, Gutter, Interpreter’s House, Obsessed with Pipework, Pennine Platform, Poetry Strasbourg, Poetry Wales, PN Review, The North, Shearsman and Wasafiri. Please do join us to explore the cosmos of poetry publishing together and see where might make good homes for your poems. A few words from previous participants (with thanks for this feedback to share!) on what they gained from Sub Club: ‘awareness of the different styles of different magazines, what they look for and want’, ‘more confidence to send off to “the establishment”’, ‘I have already experienced good results by being strategic and analytical’. ’Sub Club made the poetry terrain less daunting and more accessible’ with ‘helpful, frank conversations’ and ’the sessions were fun - positive vibes.’
