Junior Arts Center Class Design & Accommodations

Children’s classes are developed with their ages and stages of development in mind, therefore, classes are both age and ability specific. Once enrolled, if your child is unduly challenged or under-challenged causing them not to flourish in their specific age group, the BJAC Education Coordinator and the parent/guardian will review the situation to identify a suitable solution. If your child has special needs (physical, emotional and/or Medic*tion) that must be accommodated while attending a BJAC class, you are required to discuss them with the BJAC Education Coordinator, Director, or BJAC designee prior to paying the class fees.

Indemnification

Except for the active negligence or willful misconduct of the CITY, or any of its Boards, Officers, Agents, Employees, Assigns and Successors in interest, Guardian/Parent/Student undertakes and agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the CITY and any of its Boards, Officers, Agents, Employees, Assigns, and Successors in interest from and against all suits and causes of action, claims, losses, demands and expenses, including, but not limited to, attorney’s fees (both in house and outside counsel) and costs of litigation (including all actual litigation costs incurred by the CITY, including but not limited to, costs of experts and consultants), damages or liability of any nature whatsoever, for death or injury to any person, including Guardian/Parent/Student employees and agents, or damage or destruction of any property of either party hereto or of third parties, arising in any manner by reason of the negligent acts, errors, omissions or willful misconduct incident to the performance of this Agreement by Guardian/Parent/Student or for any reason giving six (6) months written notice to the other party.

Barnsdall Art Park Safety

Your child’s safety in Barnsdall Park is extremely important. For this reason children ages 12 years old and under must be accompanied at all times by a parent or adult guardian when not in a class session. This includes using the stairs, restrooms, and the elevator. The Barnsdall Junior Arts Center (BJAC) is not liable for any unattended child(ren).

Off Site Class Sessions

From time to time class sessions for certain courses offered by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in the Barnsdall Art Center and Barnsdall Junior Arts Center will be held off site or in another location within the Park. It is the policy of the City of Los Angeles that students and parents of the students enrolled in these courses must indemnify the City of Los Angeles, its departments, divisions, elected officials, executives, managers, employees, and agents of all liability for damages or personal injury resulting from their enrolling and participation in the off-site activities of these courses.

Registration Policies

All classes are “first come, first served.”

Non-refundable lab fees will be collected during the registration process.

Waitlists will start once the class becomes full. As spots become available, waitlisted
students will receive an email informing them they have 24 hours to register.

The parent or guardian who registers a student will be the designated person to drop
them off and pick them up from class. If this is not the case, you must contact BJAC via
email to authorize a different person.

Students must be within the age range specified in the class listing. Barnsdall Junior Arts Center reserves the right to cancel enrollment for any students who are not within the specified age range.

Please let us know if you need to drop a class once registration ends by emailing us at
[email protected].

Cancellation Policy

All classes risk being canceled if at least 50% of the class slots are not filled. In case of a cancellation, students in these classes will be notified immediately by email. The lab fee will be refunded in the case of cancellation.

Attendance Policy

Only enrolled students may participate in the class.

An authorized parent or guardian must accompany students aged 12 and below to the
assigned studio to sign the student in and out of class.

Students must be dropped off 5 minutes before class and picked up no later than 5
minutes after class.

Those who do not follow the sign in/out procedure or are consistently late bringing and/or picking up their child(ren) will be referred to the Director or Education Coordinator for a conference in an attempt to resolve the issue.
