Explore the delight of camera-less photography. Participants will learn how to produce photographic prints using one of the oldest forms of photography, cyanotypes. Cyanotypes are made by placing objects onto chemically treated, photosensitive paper, which is then exposed to direct sunlight.
Many artists, including Anna Atkins and Meghann Riepenhoff, featured in Underexposed: Women Photographers from the Collection, have experimented with this medium to create works that capture the beauty, forms, and power of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from these artists, this workshop will invite participants to make their own series of cyanotypes using natural materials.
Sunlight is essential for making cyanotypes. In case of inclement weather, this workshop will be rescheduled for the following week, on Tuesday, June 29, 1:30–4 p.m.
Studio Sessions meet in the Anne Cox Chambers Wing Lobby. They are designed for adults, but all ages are welcome. Materials will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. This workshop will take place both outdoors and inside the Anne Cox Chambers Wing Lobby.
