About this Event

Like their cousins the Dragonfly, Damselflies symbolize transformation. Unlike the Dragonfly, Damselfly wings are iridescent, meaning there is an added element of light involved. Join us as we learn to create Damselfly earrings (made with real wings)- so you can bring a little bit of their light home with you.

ABOUT STACY LEE

Stacy Lee is a Jacksonville-based mixed media artist. She has a passion for animals, which comes across in her work. “Bug was one of my first words. But I couldn’t pronounce the letter ‘g,’ so it came out as ‘buck.’ I was so obsessed that, to this day, my family still calls them ‘bucks.’”
This love of nature leads her to earn her Bachelors in Biology with a minor in Art at UNCW. For the following 6 years, she reared aquatic organisms in the lab. Using these organisms, she
performed environmental water quality testing, contracted by DENR. She then moved into Inorganic Chemistry and worked for the State of North Carolina for 4 years, until her move into art full-time.

Her love of animals also led her to volunteer at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, where her ideas to merge science and art began to come into fruition. Her artwork with arthropods began
with a need to preserve an old butterfly, as it
had become very delicate. She started experimenting with resins and her arthropod art was born!

From paintings of cuttlefish, to using real creatures like dragonflies or crabs, Stacy hopes to inspire a love of the natural world and all its amazing creatures. She takes time to create factual tags for all of her species art--in the hopes of spreading a message of conservation and respect of the natural world.
