Chavela is a music project formed in 2018 by San Antonio native singer and songwriter, Isabel Paillao. “Chavela” (the Mexican nickname for “Isabel”) reflects Paillao’s cultural roots and represents the ensemble she plays with. Inspired by music native to her hometown like Chicano soul and Tejano, as well as blues and Americana, Paillao has crafted an original and soulful sound that serves as a vehicle for her heartfelt lyricism and nostalgic melodies.
