About this Event

Join us for the Student March for DC Statehood in the Emancipation Day Parade, where young people from across the District of Columbia come together to continue our pursuit for DC Statehood.

Emancipation Day holds deep significance as we honor the day President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Act, freeing over 3,100 enslaved people in the District of Columbia. Despite our progress, the need for DC Statehood remains urgent. While Home Rule grants us limited self-government, Congressional approval on local matters is required, and DC still lacks a single vote in the US Congress.

As the next generation, it is imperative that we shape a future DC that ensures equal voting rights and representation for all.
