Stu Parker is this months guest speaker, Stu has been a memeber of the Society for around 15 years, Stu lives in Canterbury.Parker is a part of BOSS -- the Backyard Observatory Supernova Search -- and to say he's good at is an understatement: he's only the sixth amateur in the world to have discovered a hundred supernovas, and he's still searching -- the current tally exceeds 120.
Stu's talk is titled :
Exploring the Universe: How Amateur Astronomers Can Make a Difference from Their Backyards"
Join me on my journey in supernova hunting, astro-imaging, collaborating with professional astronomers, capturing solar and planetary images, recording minor planets, and moreāall achieved with amateur equipment. My talk will include supernova discoveries and insights into our BOSS group, astro-imaging techniques starting from phone setups to larger rigs, projects using basic equipment like cell phones and Seestars, a guide to data processing, and tips for solar imaging, featuring images captured with a simple Seestar and a quark in HA. Discover how amateurs can contribute significantly to our understanding of the cosmos.
Door's open at 7pm talk will start at 7:30pm sharp.
