This exhibition invites visitors to explore a captivating collection of photographs that reveal the beauty and complexity of urban landscapes through the eyes of an artist who continuously observes the built environment.
Artist Statement:
This grouping of photos is the result of my continuous observations of anomalies seen in the built environment, as well as details of edifices that, when abstracted, make graphic statements independent of that structure’s overall form. The bulk of my work comes from unexpected sightings I chance upon while walking around cities and towns. Keeping an alert eye is my nature. The series is as much about graphics as it is about architecture, the result of a life studying both art and architecture, treating them as inseparable entities.
Although I don’t consciously look for square forms, per se, when I am out with my camera, it occurred to me that the square is found in many of my compositions. Being among the strongest of geometric shapes, and my forever thinking in graphic terms, it became clear that the squares in these photos would really jump out if I grouped them together. “Homage to the Square” is a sub-theme for this exhibit. Displayed on the east wall of the room, any one of the pictures enlarged would be compatible with those on the other walls, but grouped together, they illustrate the power of geometry.
