String Innovations Clinic 2023: Phoenix

Geared toward orchestra directors, The 2023 String Innovations Clinic will focus on string instruction for ensembles. String players will also have the opportunity to develop secondary instrument skills.

Topics explored will include:

• Developing tension-free playing
• Nurturing beautiful tone
• Creating curricula for string classes
• Mastering fingerboard geography
• Mastering rhythm sight reading and developing related aural skills

Participants will receive a thorough instruction to the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy and Chaffee Core Musicianship Project (CCMP) curricula. Those who are interested in deeper training or trainer certification on either curriculum are encouraged to contact the instructors for more details and to enroll in separate Paul Rolland String Pedagogy and CCMP courses and clinics.

String Innovations is taught by string educators Joanne May, who will be giving an introduction to the Paul Rolland String Pedagogy, and Clark Chaffee, author of the Chaffee Core Musicianship Project. Joanne is a highly respected international clinician with experience teaching in the US and Europe; Clark is a creative, experienced orchestra director whose program includes "Rhythm Workshop" and "Key Shapes" materials and activities.
