Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) is a parent programme that provides an opportunity for parents to explore parenting issues in a supportive setting. Being a parent can be a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. When our children grow up to be happy, confident and capable of playing a responsible and respectful part in their families and their communities we can rightly take pride in them. However, being a parent can also be a stressful experience, particularly when we are being given confusing or contradictory messages about what good parenting is, which at times seems to be at odds with the way we were brought up. This stress may be added to when we find we have to deal with the challenges of everyday living: managing money; supporting our children’s education; coping with ill-health or poor housing; dealing with racism; bringing up our children in unsafe surroundings; and ensuring that both girls and boys get a fair chance to achieve their ambitions.
This programme is designed to support you to raise happy and successful children by getting access to information and strategies for bringing up your children, meeting other parents, and making sure your voice is heard.
Access to SFSC is available as a 12 week programme, which is delivered in a group setting. The programme will be run by two ‘facilitators’, who have undergone extensive training to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the programme.
These sessions are free and open to all parents, with refreshments and childcare provided.
If you complete the course you will receive a completion of programme certificate!
