About this Event
What is Super Slow?
Super Slow is a form of resistance training developed by Ken Hutchins specifically designed for osteoporosis. This form of strength training has been shown to improve strength and bone mineral density in osteoporosis patients. Workouts are only 2 times per week, 30 minute duration.
Training at Forward Motion
Forward Motion Physical Therapy incorporates a medically-directed strengthening program developed using Super Slow and Exercise Physiology. Our staff are able to help people with osteoporosis improve their level of strength and bone mineral density while accounting for any medical concerns.
How does the training work?
Training involves very slow concentric and eccentric strengthening with emphasis on constant muscle tension.
Momentum is eliminated, making muscles work harder and resulting in more strength gains
Due to slow controlled movements, there is a very low risk of injury
Lower weight is required due to constant muscle tension and therefore relatively little soreness occurs
What results can I expect?
Female osteoporosis participants showed greater than 50% increase in strength after 8-10 weeks of Super Slow (J Sports Med Phys Fitness. 2001 Jun;41(2):154-8).
