STREET / ART, GOWANUS: Multiple Frequencies
About this Event
Join this "collage of community" collaboratively-created walk around the infamous Gowanus Canal. This is partially an unscripted traditional tour, and part art "happening" inspired by the local art.
Many artists are highlighted, but Park Slope / Windsor Terrace collective artists include Rene Murray, Mieko Asada, Caroline Curtin, Susan Newmark and Rich Garr.
Tour begins with a short intro of their art at the "Multiple Frequencies" exhibit before exploring various street art and architectre spots out on the sidewalks. Expect about 1 mile of walking, including a stroll over the freshly re-opened 1880s Carrol Street Bridge.
We'll reach the last stop after about 1.5 hours, and enter the 1904 Powerhouse Arts building. Once there, visitors are free to spend as much time as they want viewing BWAC's (Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition) "Unmoored / Unbound" show- a reference to the devastating Red Hook fire of 2025. The art- and architecture- is inspiring, and the walk ends on a positive note (and surrounded by some of the best food and drink options in NYC!).
