A Weekend of Music, Workshops & Performance: Torbay Symphony Orchestra Presents The Rite of Spring in Totnes. We invite the community to an extraordinary weekend of music, creativity and exploration at Totnes Civic Hall on Saturday 29th September, celebrating one of the most groundbreaking works ever written Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring.Alongside two full performances of the piece, the weekend offers a rich programme of workshops, open rehearsals and pre-concert talks, giving audiences of all ages the chance to get close to the orchestra and discover the world behind this iconic music.
SATURDAY 29 NOVEMBER – Free Workshops and Open Rehearsal, with Ticketed Evening Concert
10.30am–12.00pm Free entry Brass Workshop with Dave Chatterton. A practical, inspiring session led by TSO’s Principal Trumpet. Suitable for brass players of all levels, including young musicians.
2.00pm–5.00pm Free entry Open Rehearsal with the Orchestra. A rare chance to sit inside a working symphony orchestra rehearsal. Families welcome.
6.30pm Pre-Concert Talk with Sam Richards
“The Rite of Spring in Context” uncovering the folk influences, modernist ideas, rituals and symbolism behind Stravinsky’s masterpiece.
Free for concert ticket holders.
7.30pm – Evening Concert
Featuring a guided deconstruction of The Rite of Spring with live examples, projections, historical insight and dance, followed by a full performance of the work with a large symphony orchestra. Tickets available.
