Where is Glen Strathfarrar?
Glen Strathfarrar is a remote glen - made even more remote by the limitations on vehicles that are allowed through on any one day.
The nearest village is Cannich and it can be reached from the A82 from Fort William or Inverness, or from Inverness on smaller more scenic roads passing through Beauly.
The Glen is known for its wild and unspoiled landscape, ancient Caledonian pinewoods, and diverse wildlife, including red deer and golden eagles.
About the Adventure:
The Glen Strathfarrar Munros are to the north of the small private road through the glen: Sgùrr Fhuar-thuill, Sgùrr a’ Choire Ghlais, Càrn nan Gobhar, and Sgùrr na Ruaidhe. The route for the most part follows good tracks and ridges though can be boggy on the final descent off Sgurr na Ruaidhe - often made more exciting by the imminent locking of the gate.
We meet in the Glen Strathfarrar car park near the entrance to the Glen. There is a locked gate which is opened at 0900 and car registration numbers taken. We will aim to travel into the Glen in as few a cars as possible. We'll park up by the end of the walk first and drive an extra 3km extra to the start. It's a linear walk - possible to do as a circular. When we come down off the final Munro, we'll be able to head back up to the start point in the car to pick the other one(s) up and then drive out.
