Stagnant wages and a shifting economy have perpetuated income inequality for the last four decades, making economic mobility for the poorest households a fleeting possibility. At the intersection of race and class, wealth disparities are most acute.

COVID-19 amplified social problems that pre-date the pandemic. The impact of federal stimulus dollars to stabilize households around the country inspired some leaders to reconsider guaranteed income as an anti-poverty strategy, such as through a permanent child tax credit, cash transfers or reparations.

San Francisco has launched several economic security programs to date. This summit will explore a few of those pilots; consider how initiatives might align to inform regional, state and national policies; and share best practices on equitably advancing economic justice.

Speakers and panelists to include:

  • Mayor London Breed
  • Mayor Michael Tubbs
  • Dr. Darrick Hamilton
  • Sheryl Evans Davis, EdD
  • President Shamann Walton
  • Treasurer José Cisneros
  • Supervisor Matt Haney
  • Staff & Participants, S.F. guaranteed income pilot programs
